Winning in Troubled Times

2 Corinthians 4:17 – “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory”.  I read a story about a woman in Haiti that was caught under a collapsed house and rubble during the earthquake that hit Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, 2010.  She told of how she immediately began quoting Psalm 91.  Still under the house, on Wednesday she quoted Psalm 91, on Thursday...

12 Items Or Less

2 Chronicles 20:25 – “And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.”

Now, that’s a scripture that will get you shouting!  I believe that on the other side of your battle, there’s abundance.  Last week, I stopped at the grocery store, picked up two gallons of Raspberry Iced Tea, and went to the Express Checkout for “12 items or less”.  The woman in front of me was loading her MORE than 12 items onto the belt...

Right Place, Right Time

Genesis 24:12 – “And he said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and show kindness unto my master Abraham.”

Talk about being in the right place at the right time…The parents of a young baseball player named Conrad Gregor, traveled five hours over Memorial Day weekend to see their son play for the River Bandits, an affiliate team of the Houston Astros.  With his team down in the sixth inning, 2-1, Gregor launched a three-run homer over the fence, straight to a fan who made an over-the-shoulder basket catch, narrowly eluded by another fan’s grasp.  The fan who made the catch - Conrad’s father, Marty!

Joint Checking Account

Romans 8:17 – “And if children, then heirs, heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ”.

For those of you who are married (or want to be one day), on your wedding day, you most likely received lots of checks made out to Mr. and Mrs. [your names].  What did you do with those checks?  If you deposited them, it was probably into a jointchecking account, or at least I hope so!  And in order to deposit them, both of you had to sign your name on the back of the check.

The Wagons Are Coming

Genesis 45:27 - Amplified Bible - "But when they told him [Jacob] all the words of Joseph which he had said to them, and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived [and warmth and life returned]."

Are you an optimist of a pessimist?  Consider this.  When Jacob's sons came to him and said their brother Joseph, his favored son, was dead, he believed their lying report. Then when the same sons came to him many years later and said that Joseph is alive, and he's the governor of Egypt, he couldn't believe their true report.  It was easier for him to believe the negative news, and harder for him to believe the positive news...it was just "too good to be true".  That's pessimism - the tendency to dismiss the light and embrace the dark.
